Design considerations

Real engineering notes from the press line.

  • ! Designs must avoid sharp internal corners in load paths - heat cycling causes stress concentration at sharp corners, leading to fatigue cracks.
  • ! Latch spring force typically 8-15 N for hand-operated doors - specify on drawing.
  • ! Blackening (vs plating) is preferred for heat applications because plating can flake at elevated temperatures.

Frequently asked questions

Why blackening instead of plating for high-heat parts?

Zinc plating starts to discolor at 200 C and flakes above 350 C. Black oxide (Fe3O4) is stable to 600 C and provides mild corrosion resistance plus a low-reflection finish preferred for stove applications.

Do you supply the spring pins that go with the latch?

Yes - we stock spring pins (ISO 8752 / DIN 1481) in 3-10 mm diameters. Add as a kit item on your RFQ.

Can you make a prototype latch from my sketch?

Yes - send a sketch or even a sample part. We provide DFM feedback within 1-2 business days and can quote reverse-engineered tooling based on an existing part for -200.

Ready to specify this part?

Send your drawing. We will quote within 1 business day.
